Q&A
1. After the exchange, not all my contacts may have changed my e-mail address in their contact books. What happens to emails sent to the "old" address?
We will receive letters sent to the old address for about 1 year in the future. But it is good if you announce your new address when the exchange is complete.
2. Do I need to change any settings in my email program?
If you use the university's common e-mail system, you normally do not need to change anything other than your specified e-mail address in letter templates, on business cards, etc.
However, if you know that you are using email programs with IMAP, you must change your specified sending email address in your email program setup.
3. My address is in many mailing lists. How are they?
UIT changes the lists available at UU. In lists that are elsewhere, after the exchange, you need to tell them that you changed your email address. But your "old" address works for a while after the exchange so it's not in a absolute hurry.
4. Will I find it difficult to connect, log in, to IT services on the Internet after the change?
You may need to tell these IT services that you changed your email address. UIT ensures that IT services used within UU do let you in after the exchange. When everyone working at UIT changed their e-mail address in the fall of 2019, there were 3 IT services that were affected by the change. UIT handled that change for all and no users noticed it.
5. What IT services do you already know that are affected by the change?
We know that Sunet Box and Projectplace are affected by the change. Therefore, UIT coordinates with you and ensures that it will work.
6. How will function addresses change?
We add -inst/place between the function name and the @ sign. This is because there are many functions within UU that have the same name but exist at different institutions / equivalent. UFV is the abbreviation for the university administration, the same abbreviation used in the diary, and through this address construction provides an organizational residence for the function that is easy to understand and distinguish.
Later when institutions / equivalent at the university change to @uu.se, their function addresses will have the same construction; functionname-inst@uu.se and in this way we reduce the risk of confusions and clashes between function addresses.
7. I have a fairly common name and will probably clash with my namesake. How do we avoid it?
Those named alike will have to add one or two initial letters between first name and last name.
ex: anders.a.andersson @ uu, se
or anders.ab.andersson@uu.se
This is to avoid clashes and confusions.
