New E-mail Domain

A University common mail domain

General information

  • There is currently no decision that everyone within the university should switch to a common e-mail domain.
  • The people/institutions/campus who want/need to change to university commmon domain can do so.
  • There may be technical, financial and practical reasons why replacement will be required.
    • More and more providers of IT services/software/licenses have functions and requirements that assume that a customer has one, or very few, e-mail domains. This may be to, for example, be able to register licenses or to be able to verify their license rights.

The university currently has about 490 registered e-mail domains, of which about 245 contain active e-mail addresses.
All domains require continuous maintenance and administration even for each IT service that depends on them.

Those who switch to the common e-mail domain will retain keep their department/campus address for receiving e-mail in the future.
Sent emails will have the new address as the senders address.

Personal addresses

Personal addresses change to
firstname.surname@uu.se
The old address receives mail for some time after the change.

Users with the same name
To prevent name clashes at @uu.se, we now identify all persons whose names are the same. At the end of February, they are asked to add an initial letter for middle names between first and last names and send the new mail address to us so that we can compile the list of correct new addresses.
firstname.i.lastname@uu.se or alternatively firstname.ii.lastname@uu.se

Function addresses
Function addresses change according to the form
functionname-inst@uu.se
The principle is to move inst that is immediately after the @ sign to directly before the @ sign with - as a punctuation mark. The institution abbreviation can also be campus names or equivalent.

Example:
studievagled@edu.uu.se -> studievagled-edu@uu.se
receptionen@bmc.uu.se -> receptionen-bmc@uu.se

Function accounts may move when it suits you. You can list your current function addresses with suggestions on how they should be changed ... @ uu, se. Send the summary to itsupport@uu.se.
Then we will plan a day for the change to take place together with you.

Note For the university administration, the inst name of the function addresses changes from uadm to ufv. Example: service center-ufv@uu.se
