Finding and installing programs
Programs that can be installed directly
In many cases, software above and beyond the standard range covered by IT fees can be made available for a licence fee. Start by searching for the name of the required software in Software Centre (Windows) or Self Service (Mac) tool and submit a request. If you already have a licence registered, your computer will install the program shortly after your request. If you do not have a licence, UIT will contact you to request more information to complete the order.
MAC: Install programs in Self Service
Windows: Install programs in Software Centre
Programs that must be ordered
If you cannot find your program in the Software Centre tool (Windows) or Self Service tool (Mac), or if you do not have a client-managed computer, you can submit your order to IT Support using this email form. Many software programs incur an additional cost, so the form requires the following information:
Headings in the form | What you need to fill in |
---|---|
Copy: / CC: | Email address of person with authentication rights (e.g. immediate superior/head of department) |
Subject | Name of software (add at the end of the line) |
Licence reference | University ID (AKKA-ID) of the employee who will use the software |
Computer reference | Computer name of your computer (contact IT-support for assistance) |
Reference code (6 characters) | Enter your reference code (order code) |
Raindance project (9 digits) | Enter the Raindance project to be charged for the software |
Regarding programs and licences that incur an additional cost
In addition to the programs offered as part of the IT fee, the department for University IT Services (UIT) manages a large number of licences and software programs that individual employees can order as required. These programs incur an additional cost based on the current agreement with the University's licensing partner, and each order needs to be approved by the financial officer (immediate superior/head of department) of your department (or equivalent unit). UIT processes three types of licensing agreements:
Licence type 1: Programs/licences with site/volume agreement
Processing time: estimated 1 week.
These licenses are called-off under longer university-wide agreements, where terms, conditions and prices are stable within the contract period. If your computer is managed by UIT, these programs can be made available more quickly and easily.

Licence type 2: Widely used software licences (regularly updated price list)
Processing time: estimated 2 weeks.
These licences are processed individually for each order via the University's contracted supplier. The terms and conditions of the licences may change regularly and without notice. Since several of these software programs are widely used, an accurate price indication is often available prior to ordering/call-off (based on previous orders).

Licence type 3: Specific programs and services (require quotation from supplier)
Processing time: 4+ weeks.
Less widely-used software licences usually require an investigation from the University's licensing provider before a quotation on price and conditions can be offered. The quotation is then sent to the requester and needs to be responded to (within a specified period) before an order can be placed. The process often involves longer processing times depending on the software and the type of licence.
NOTE: Licence purchases must be processed under the Public Procurement Act, which means that procurement must be processed in accordance with specific regulations. Licences purchased are only for use on equipment owned by the University, unless the agreement for a specific licence explicitly states otherwise. |
