About the research track
Chemical biology is usually defined as a discipline focusing on biology with a chemical perspective. This includes the study of synthesis and function of natural compounds from biosynthesis, the evolution of such systems and the interaction of the resulting molecules with biological systems and living organisms.
One important aspect is the application of chemical techniques, analysis, and informatics on the full range from small molecules (occasionally produced through synthetic chemistry) to poly-peptides, to the study and manipulation of biological systems.
