Book a defence slot

A slot to defend your thesis must be booked in the defence calendar. Log in via the joint web login.

A slot for a licentiate seminar should not be booked in the defence calendar.
PhD students can book a first choice slot in the calendar, that is, the slot in which they intend to defend their thesis. The first choice slot will remain in the calendar and will only be removed if the PhD student personally removes it from the calendar.
In addition to the first choice slot, it is possible to book a second choice slot for the defence, if for some reason the first choice slot would not work. A second choice slot must be booked more than six months in advance. A second choice slot is valid for two months from the date on which it was booked, meaning it must be rebooked before these two months have passed to ensure the slot is not automatically deleted. Please note that it is not possible to keep a second choice slot less than six months prior to the date of the first choice slot.
In the defence calendar, there are three booking options:
- Pre-klin
- Klin
- Farm
When booking a defence slot, the PhD student must choose the correct tab in the calendar for the subject area to which the defence belongs. It is therefore not possible to choose any time in the defence calendar, and the booked time must not clash with another PhD student's time if they belong to the same subject area.
The booking should be made in ample time: 6–12 months before the defence. Slots in May get booked up rapidly. Please note that it is not permitted to defend your thesis during certain academic ceremonies. This applies to the day of the Conferment Ceremony, the day before and the inauguration of professors. These dates are blocked in the defence calendar.
