Support for the recuperation of employees at Masesgården
Opportunities for rest and recuperation for employees
To prevent illness and/or provide opportunities for rest and recuperation, all employees of Uppsala University may apply for a week-long stay at Masesgården in Dalarna. Room and board are included in the stay. You pay for the trip there yourself, as well as any additional treatments and courses.
Application and conditions
You must write and submit an application to the human resources director for consideration and authorisation. Your application may be approved on condition that your head of department/equivalent has authorised your application and granted you paid leave for your stay. This means that you and your head of department/equivalent must agree on a suitable duration for your stay. In addition, your application must also clearly state that the stay is in line with the purpose of preventing illness and/or need for rest and/or recuperation.
More information
On Masesgårdens website: www.masesgarden.se/kurser, you can find more information.
Accompanying individuals
Spouses and significant others may accompany employees to Masesgården, but will have to pay for their own visits.
Allotment of stays
The allotment of stays will be decided based on the date of submission of the application to the human resources director and an estimation of how much the stay will contribute to preventing illness. Employees can normally apply for another stay at Masesgården after five years have passed since their last stay.
Thore Fries Memorial Fund and Masesgården
The stay at a rest home is made possible by Thore Fries’ memorial fund which is managed by the Uppsala University Foundations Management of Estates and Funds. The Uppsala University Foundations Management of Estates and Funds manages capital donated by individuals to support Uppsala University. The purpose of the fund is to provide the opportunity for summer recuperation or equivalent for University employees and members of the teaching staff and University employees. Particular emphasis is placed on the prevention of illness using the fund.
The Uppsala University Foundations Management of Estates and Funds has a ten-year agreement with Masesgården in Leksand which is extended for one year at a time. The yields of the fund are sufficient to cover around 20 week-long stays for employees at Uppsala University annually.

Information for the head of department / equivalent
Motivation to grant an application to Masesgården for employees should mainly be work-related and which in the long run can prevent sick leave. As head of department / equivalent, it is important to think through the purpose of the stay at Masesgården and that there is a plan for continued work to prevent ill health for the employee after the stay at Masesgården.
