Nominate candidates to the Karin Westman Berg Scholarship 2018

The Karin Westman Berg Scholarship is an annual award given to a female doctoral student at Uppsala University or at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Uppsala, who has made a notable contribution to research in the spirit of Karin Westman Berg.
We are now looking forward to nominations for this year's scholarship of SEK 30,000.

To qualify for the scholarship, the candidate needs to identify as a woman, be 35 years old or younger, be a PhD student at one of the two universities and have a gender perspective in her research. A further merit is to have conducted "efforts in the spirit of Karin Westman Berg", such as, for example, different sorts of commitment to gender equality within academia.

The nomination should be no more than half an A4 page per candidate and is to be mailed to annie.mattsson@littvet.uu.se by 21 June 2018. The nomination should present why the nominee is a good candidate for the Karin Westman Berg scholarship, and should also contain a brief description of the nominee’s research and its importance from a gender perspective. Don’t forget to state the name and institutional status of the nominee. It is possible to nominate several candidates.

The scholarship is funded by the Fredrika Bremer Society. The recipient is free to use the funds as she pleases and is given the opportunity to present her research at the award ceremony. The recipient will be chosen at the beginning of the upcoming fall term and the award ceremony will take place in November 2018.

Karin Westman Berg (1914−1997) was a Professor of Literature at Uppsala University. She led projects on women's literary history and female writers, and held seminars on gender. The seminar series "Könsrollsseminariet" gathered authors and researchers in the late 1960s, some of whom later founded the feminist organization Grupp 8. Karin Westman Berg was active in the Fredrika Bremer Society and she was a pioneer for female academics. Today she represents a collective interest in the opportunities for women researchers at the two Universities of Uppsala.
